Riverside Sets Summer Auditions

 

Audition dates for upcoming shows this summer have been set by Riverside Children’s Theatre.   Open to teens and

college students, Summer Stage ‘09 auditions will be held May 29 and May 30 at the Agnes Wahlstrom Youth Playhouse,

Vero Beach.  This years’ program will produce a main stage musical, “Big River,” the adaptation of Mark Twain’s classic

about the irrepressible Huck Finn, his journey down the mighty Mississippi and the many colorful characters he meets along

the way.

Kevin Quillinan will direct “Big River” and will be auditioning teens ages 13 and up.  Requirements for auditions are 16 bars of music from a Broadway style song.  Those auditioning will also be asked to do cold readings from the script and dance.  No monologue is required.

Auditions are May 29 at 4 p.m. and May 30 at 2 p.m.  Also being held on May 30 at 2 p.m. are the second round of auditions for “Honk, Jr.” the musical based on the ugly duckling story.  “Honk, Jr.” is part of Riverside’s Next Stage program and is open to ages 8 and up.   Next Stage is the next level between the traditional Riverside Rascals program and Summer Stage.  For further information, call Riverside Children’s Theatre at 772-234-8052.

There’s something for kids of all ages at Riverside Children’s Theatre’s annual Spring Fiesta ….a celebration of the performing arts for kids on May 16.  Hands on activities, performance face painting, children’s entertainer Silly Sam, “Chicken Little” and “The Tortoise and the Hare” are all free.  Hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Agnes Wahlstrom Youth Playhouse, 3280 Riverside Park Drive, Vero Beach.   Call RCT at 772-234-8052 for a performance schedule.

Riverside Children’s Theatre Philosophy of Education Each child has the freedom to express himself/herself in an emotionally and physically safe environment.  Each child has the opportunity to explore his/her specific interests in all areas of theatre and is encouraged to do so through classroom work and performance.  With respect to RCT productions, the objective is to produce the highest quality show possible while emphasizing the process, providing all children the opportunity to perform in some capacity, and in finding a place for each individual child’s special talents.  Riverside Children’s Theatre programs are inclusive to all children. All participants must show kindness and respect at all times. Students are expected to respect each other, teachers, themselves and the children’s theatre.
