Jack Baker's Lobster Shanty
Jack Baker opened the very first Lobster Shanty over 30 years ago in Point Pleasant Beach, NJ.  As the son of a fisherman, he learned all about the sea from his father, Barkos with whom he fished on weekends and summers throughout high school. A decision was made to open a small four-table restaurant on the side porch of their home. After a busy day of lobstering, Jack and his father would cook their catch in an old clothes washer that had been converted to a gas-fired cooker. As word got out, people flocked in to buy their fresh lobsters.  Business grew and grew and eventually the old clothes washer was traded in for a bathtub which was also converted to a gas-fired cooker. The porch could no longer accommodate everyone, so a building was constructed on what is now the present site of the Lobster Shanty in Point Pleasant Beach.

Jack discovered his passion for cooking early in life, during a stint as a busboy at Florida's Biltmore Hotel.  It only made sense to expand the restaurants into Florida, where the appreciation of great seafood is an art form. Many lobsters, cookers, and years have passed and the Jack Baker tradition of serving the best in seafood continues. The Jack Baker family of restaurants now operates six locations across Florida and New Jersey.  It is for this reason we proudly state that Jack Baker's Lobster Shanty & Wharfside is "the place that seafood lovers (like you!) made famous".

Seafood is, and always has been our specialty, which makes our menu philosophy very simple: serve the best - don't fool around with anything else.  When people come to one of our restaurants, they expect to get great seafood. We've been in business for over 35 years and it's fair to say that we know what we're doing.  If you stop in at one of our 3 locations in Florida, you'll usually find 6 to 8 different species of fresh fish on the menu including Dolphin (Mahi-Mahi), Black Grouper, Red Snapper, Atlantic Salmon, Yellow Fin Tuna, Swordfish, Cobia, Wahoo or Golden Tilefish.  On occasion Blue Marlin, Mako Shark, and Pompano make a visit as well.

Fresh fish selections are prepared in a large variety of ways: char-grilled, Caribbean barbecued, Jamaican jerked, Cajun blackened, and Pacific Rim teriyaki.  In addition to all that fresh Florida fish, you can try some other native treats such as Alligator Tail, Conch Fritters, and Rock Shrimp.  A bonus of dining at any one of our three beautiful waterfront locations are the ever present antics of dolphins, manatee, pelicans and blue heron!

If you're looking for a really terrific fish dinner (or lunch!), your search has just ended!
